Red Bull x 121
For the 2022 edition of 121 Festival in Wellington, New Zealand, we were engaged by Red Bull in collaboration with the 121 team to deliver a bespoke bar build attached to the stage they were sponsoring. Known for its boutique scale and tightly curated electronic lineup, the festival’s creative brief leaned heavily into a techno-inspired visual direction.

Challenge

The key challenges for this project were twofold: the remote nature of the site made logistics and delivery more complex, and the available budget was modest, in line with the festival’s 3,000-person scale. Additionally, the existing bar location was essentially an empty shell, requiring a build-from-scratch approach with full creative autonomy.

Approach

To maintain impact while staying within scope, we opted to use scaffolding as the structural base—affordable, modular, and easily transportable. We collaborated with a local scaffolding team to assemble key zones which were then transformed using mirror-clad ACM panels to reflect the surrounding lighting and laser shows. Custom LED strips, twin-wall cladding for soft diffusion, and wrapped Red Bull-branded lightboxes added visual depth. The entire build leaned into a high-gloss, tech-inspired palette of mirror, red LEDs, and modular geometry.

Output

The final installation featured a dominant mirrored entrance pillar, two scaffold-based high-lean seating zones, diffused signage, and full RGB lighting treatment. One highlight was a large LED screen mounted on the scaff tower’s front panel, looping custom motion graphics designed specifically for the festival environment.

The Red Bull Bar quickly became a central visual anchor of the stage precinct—striking, functional, and thematically spot-on for the festival’s underground techno ethos. It delivered a fully immersive branded moment without compromising on modularity or cost-efficiency. Massive shoutout to Cam and Oli from 121 for bringing us on board and trusting us to help elevate the experience.
