Spotify Chromaseum
This proactive pitch project, called the Spotify Chromaseum, was an experiential concept designed for Spotify whilst working at Popology. Although it never came to fruition, the idea was to create a “coliseum” of music immersion, where visitors could literally step inside a shared soundscape.

Challenge

The main challenge was developing a technically sophisticated, highly interactive environment that could transform music into a visual and physical experience. It relied heavily on TouchDesigner for real-time audio and visual processing, and required extensive projection mapping and hand tracking, all within a large, coliseum-like structure.

Approach

We envisioned a clean, simple cylindrical “cake tin” structure where visitors could enter and add their chosen songs to a communal playlist. Inside, the TouchDesigner software would turn each song’s album art into a dynamic projection, creating abstract, colourful visuals that responded to the music’s audio profile. The installation also included hand tracking so visitors could physically “interact” with the visuals, making the experience feel like stepping inside their own song.

Output

The proposed output was a 20-meter-wide cylindrical structure with tiered seating and a 360-degree projection rig. All sound and visuals were driven by the internal truss system, turning music into a reactive and immersive environment.

Though the Chromaseum concept didn’t proceed due to budget constraints, it was a fascinating exploration into blending physical space with interactive, music-driven visuals. It demonstrated how fans could engage with their favourite songs on a whole new sensory level, transforming a simple playlist into an immersive, collaborative visual experience.
