Mode Festival
Sydney · Realised · Spatial design and wayfinding with Bizarro; visual identity by Studio Mimu.
Mode is an electronic music and arts festival on Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour. Null worked with Bizarro to translate Studio Mimu’s identity into spatial wayfinding and structures across the island.

Challenge
The site is a maze of industrial spaces and elevation changes, so the wayfinding had to be clear and consistent while still feeling like part of Mimu’s bold graphic language, all within a tight ferry-only build window.
Approach
We developed a family of mirrored walls, circular wayfinding towers, illuminated plinths, flags and overhead signage using scaffolding, truss and printed cladding. A QR-linked install system gave crew locations and instructions on site.
On the island.
Output
We delivered the mirrored welcome wall, map and set-time towers, refreshed plinths with lighting, banner crowns and Turbine Hall signage.
The festival gained a cohesive physical presence, clear directional information and landmarks that shifted with light and crowd throughout the day and into night.
